Yes. The Kaylee Goncalves Foundation Inc., doing business as Murder Has A Name, is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
Our funding comes from individual donors, private contributions, and partnerships with those who believe in advancing justice through modern forensic technology.
Funds are allocated directly to cases that can benefit from advanced DNA analysis. We work alongside investigators and forensic professionals to ensure resources are applied where they can make the greatest impact.
The purpose of the Kaylee Goncalves Foundation DBA ‘Murder Has a Name’ is to remove financial barriers and ensure that cases can move forward regardless of a family’s ability to pay.
All funds raised are used strictly for foundation purposes, including funding advanced forensic DNA and investigative genetic genealogy (IGG) efforts. No funds are distributed to family members or foundation leadership. All positions are voluntary, ensuring every donation goes directly toward helping bring answers and justice to victims and their families.
No. At no time, including before the foundation was established, have any family members or board members received payment or financial benefit of any kind, including for interviews or appearances. Every dollar is used strictly to support the mission, raise awareness and advance case work.
We are committed to transparency and accountability. Our “Transparency & Financials” page, located in the Insights tab, is regularly updated with information on funding, case progress, and overall impact, so supporters can clearly see how their contributions are being put to work.

Our Work & Process
How cases move forward through advanced DNA testing and investigative work.
We focus on unresolved violent crimes where advanced DNA testing and genetic genealogy have the potential to identify unknown perpetrators or provide critical new leads.
We are not involved in the case selection process. Cases are independently reviewed and selected by the forensic partners we chose to work with. The foundation’s role is strictly to fund cases that have already been selected based on their potential for advanced DNA analysis and meaningful investigative outcomes.
Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) is a method used to identify unknown individuals, including criminal suspects or unidentified remains, by combining advanced DNA analysis with family tree research.
DNA from a case is compared to profiles in public genealogy databases to find distant relatives. Experts then build family trees to narrow down a possible identity, which is confirmed through direct DNA testing.
IGG has helped solve cases once thought unsolvable, bringing answers to families and helping ensure those responsible are identified.
Absolutely. Many cases once thought unsolvable are now being reopened and solved using modern DNA technology. The Kaylee Goncalves Foundation DBA ‘Murder Has a Name Foundation’ exists because these cases can be solved today, and families deserve those answers.
Every case is different, and there is no specific timeline for progress. What matters is that with our foundation progress may become possible where it once was not.
Without funding, advanced DNA testing often cannot be pursued. This work is expensive, but it has the power to identify perpetrators, bring long-awaited answers, and prevent those responsible from reoffending, helping protect future victims and keep communities safer.
Education is central to our advocacy. Murder Has a Name Foundation works to raise public awareness about unresolved cases, forensic DNA, and investigative genetic genealogy while helping families and communities better understand the resources available to them. Our work is nonpartisan and focused on education, victim support, and expanding access to forensic solutions.
